Swallowtail Wax Batik

I used a technique called Wax Batik for the background.  I have included a tutorial below so you can try it yourself with a BKRS stamp.  If you do, be sure to share it on our fan page.  And Blue Knight Stamps is doing a September New Release giveaway!
Head over to the FANS OF BLUE KNIGHT RUBBER STAMPS Facebook group HERE, to enter!

And how did I do the card?  After I  had fun making the  background, I heat embossed the image of the butterfly it and fussy cut it out.  I mounted the Tiger Swallowtail image and mounted the batik piece on the card blank.

And here is how I made the background.
Take piece of copy paper.
Draw a design on your paper.
I used a black marker for my sections
because I wanted it to look a little like stained glass.

Color with wax crayons

or scribble randomly on paper in large sections.
Be sure to use a hard pressure so you get a lot of wax on the paper.

Crumple the paper two or three times so you have lots of cracks.
Slowly and carefully unfold paper and flatten it out.

Water down a dark color acrylic paint
like black, dark blue, dark red or purple.
Paint your paper with darker color paint using a wide brush
and blot off extra paint that pools.
The watery paint will sink into the cracks
but will not stick as well to the waxed areas
creating the batik look.
Allow the paper to dry completely.

Finish the card.  Cut the batik paper in the size
you would like to use on your card.

And Le voilĂ  !
 There it is!
Your wax batik background card with a
wonderful BKRS image!
